Gianluca is an Italian filmmaker based in Paris. He holds a degree in North American Cinema and is a graduate of the École de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. His career began in the French television industry, where he contributed to over 25 fiction and entertainment programs. Over the past five years, he has directed ten films that have toured internationally, earning acclaim at festivals such as the Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, IDFA, Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival, CPH:DOX, Hot Docs, DOXA, DMZ, Torino Film Festival, Visions du Réel, Festival dei Popoli, Biografilm, Cinéma du Réel, Frameline, and others.
Gianluca’s work explores diverse and provocative themes, including family conflicts and legacies, gender affirmation, the precariousness of work and economic decline, unresolved personal and collective traumas, the social implications of sexual practices. His cinema constantly interrogates the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction, exposing the contradictions and vulnerabilities of contemporary life. His films have earned prestigious accolades, including Best Italian Documentary at the Torino Film Festival and the Queer Lion at the Venice Film Festival. His projects are regularly supported by leading broadcasters, such as France Télévisions, Arte, NDR, RTS, RSI, RAI Cinema.
Among his notable works are Everything Must Go, The Last Chapter, Fashion Babylon, A Steady Job, Les Beaux Parleurs, Pinned into a Dress, and The Zola Experience. His feature-length film, GEN_, which centers on a hospital in Milan specializing in gender transition and fertility disorders, has participated in over one hundred festivals worldwide and premiered in the World Competition at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. His most recent work, Il quieto vivere (I Want Her Dead), had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in the Giornate degli Autori section, and is produced by RAI Cinema and RSI.
